The catalogue
expands on the project 'cross female - metaphors of femininity in art
of the '90's.' The artistic works are set off both by various perspectives
which overlap divergent perspectives of different theorists, as well
as by a collection of materials and numerous references to thematically
similar projects.
In her text
"femininityn", the academic specializing in media and gender,
Marie-Luise Angerer, Cologne, analyzes the question of a crossing of
gender identities on the basis of psychoanalytic theory. The philospher
Astrid Deuber-Mankowsky, Berlin, dedicates her essay "The Virtual Gender
and its Metaphysical Wiles" to the cyber-heroine Lara Croft. The art
theorist Jessica Ullrich, Berlin, discusses the works presented in the
exhibition in her essay, "Shifting of femaleness between Externality
and Interiority". Paula-Irene Villa, Bochum, expresses sociological
provocations "About Gender Tourists and Body Boundaries" and
concentrates on problems of and possibilities offered by queer body
practices. In her essay "Mercenaries of Slime Fantasy f2m SciFi-Mud",
the film theorist Madeleine Bernstorff examines sci-fi films of the
'90's, which especially lend themselves to feminist readings, in regard
to their gender constellations.
