In her performances, video and photography works, Patty Chang
records pictures of illness and the body that bear female connotations,
distorts or exaggerates them into the grotesque. The video performance
"Melons (At a Loss)" of 1998 has a particularly disturbing
effect - literally gut-wrenching: the artist scoops out a sugar
melon with great relish, the halves of which - replacing her
