At
the beginning of the 90s, practically simultaneously, cyber-theorist
Sadie Plant and the Australian group of female artists and activists
VNS-Matrix coined the term "cyberfeminism." While,
however, Sadie Plant stylized the net, using the analogy of
weaving, into an original feminine place, the VNS-Matrix group
attempted to subversively dodge what was to them the male coded
technoid place - the Big Daddy Mainframe - of the internet. Through
the positive reinterpreting of previously adversely used terminology,
it was their aim to add "female-ness" back to the
net in the form of digital menstruation blood, secretion, or
the clitoris: "We are the future cunt", "The
clitoris is a direct line to the matrix." |
